Seminar "Economic and Policy Aspects of Climate Change"

In this seminar, we investigate suggestions for climate policy and defend them based on recent research in economics.

The seminar is open to MSc students.

Important: In this seminar, you can get credits either for a seminar associated with MWiWi 2.8 „Dynamic Quantitative Economics“ or associated with MWiWi 2.5 „International Macroeconomics and Globalization“. Thus, it will be a combined seminar for both modules.

Note: If you studied either MWiWi 2.8 "Dynamic Quantitative Economics" and/or MWiWi 2.5 "International Macroeconomics and Globalization", you can choose from a larger set of topics. As all students, you can choose a topic from the area "Climate Change" (see below for examples). However, if you prefer a seminar topic that is closer to the contents of MWiWi 2.8 or MWiWi 2.5, there will be plenty of options.

Example readings (for the climate change topics) are:

Examples for possible topics (for the climate change topics) are:

  • Carbon Taxes and CO2 Emissions
  • The Impact of a Carbon Tax on Manufacturing: Evidence from Microdata
  • Distributional Aspects of Carbon Taxes
  • The Environmental Bias of Trade Policy
  • Climate Clubs: Overcoming Free-riding in International Climate Policy
